Target one of the fastest fish in the sea in the place often referred to the sailfish capital of Asia, Kuala Rompin in Malaysia!
It won’t be easy but it’ll be an amazing experience, and the local food is glorious!
Sabah Borneo Mahseer
Season is from February to October.
The land beneath the winds is what they call Sabah, besides the land of the (Toyota) Landcruisers!
Many of the rivers in this mountainous state are filled with mahseer or what the locals call, pelian. Also found in some are the ferocious sebarau (hampala macrolepidota).

One of the most respected freshwater sport fish in South East Asia, this monster will also test not just your fly casting skills but also test you mentally.
It is undoubtedly one of the most challenging fish to catch on the fly.
