These are not never before seen scenes but dramatic scenes nonetheless that unfolds when predators, in this instance, sailfish hunt in Rompin.
You can WATCH THE VIDEO in our previous post of the drama unfolding.
I find looking at still images interesting as you can learn new things about the unfolding events and maybe even fish behaviours.
If you are guessing that is a fly and fly line on the top part of the images, you are right.
Depending on how aggressive these sailfish are, you may or may not have any luck at all trying to catch them this way.
Often, you will get follows and some fish slashing at your fly with its bill. Very rarely they will eat a fly this way. These sailfish are spoilt with an abundance of easy, natural food.
If you can spot them stunning the bait ball with their bill, the sailfish will then casually pick off the stunned prey.
This is when you can leave your fly and not move it and hopefully it gets picked up by a fish thinking that it is one of the stunned prey. Your fly will need to resemble the bait fish though.
