The mad happenings from early 2020 made fishing more restricted. Guiding and charter trips came to an abrupt halt. We took whatever opportunity we could to do some fishing and I ended up frequenting a favourite pacu fishing spot with David.
The good thing about here is the fish are big, and strong as all pacu would normally be. The bad thing about this place is the pacu are not easy to catch.
The outcome however was surprisingly good. We fished with a new fly pattern that David had been tying, a small and very simple minnow pattern that turned out a killer fly and the pacu were jumping all over them.
I was however, having a ridiculous run. I was hooking fish after fish but kept getting bitten off, broken off and jumped off!
13 consecutive pacu was how many fish I lost!
Most of that was recorded on video for you to enjoy (or snigger at).
I’m not complaining as getting that many eats from pacu here on the strip is quite a feat but it was just frustrating to keep losing them. One time I even lost my fly line (which had been in the reel for quite some time) when the butt loop joint gave way (see it happen in the video)!
I eventually started landing those buggers and it was a relief to have a turn of fortune.
