I cannot remember when was the last time we fished in Jugra – probably 6 to 12 months ago.
Find out more about the Jugra pond HERE, including more photos.
We hear whispers that new fish stock have been added to the ponds, more red drums and GTs so off we go to check it out on a Wednesday morning.
Now there are also four ponds for the catch and release fishers, one more than the last time we were there.
The three of us were the only ones when we arrived just before sunrise, advantage of fishing midweek, and remained that way throughout our three hours session.
Working Hard to Get Fish
Fishing was not particularly easy, to say the least. Eddie had one long fight that I presume to be a grouper but the hook came off.
Nick caught a couple of barramundi and mangrove jack in the leftmost pond.
As for me, I had two offs (likely from a barramundi and a grouper), one smallish barramundi, a grouper and one redfish.
Slow retrieves yielded nothing at the beginning. It’s only when I slowed down did the bites came.
The barramundi was fun with its antics and jumps while the grouper put up the usual heavyweight fight, with the redfish putting up the most resistant and satisfying fight.
Cheers – JW
