Paul is back in Kuala Rompin for more sailfish madness and this time he brings along a good friend all the way from Scotland, Geoff.
Interesting thing is this is Geoff’s first ever saltwater fly fishing trip. Geoff is an experience fly fisher but had kept to the freshwater and big salmon fishing in particular up to now.
What good (or cruel?) way to introduce him to saltwater than trying to catch a sailfish!

Birthday Gift for Geoff?
Another wonderful thing about this trip in October 2023 was Geoff just celebrated his birthday days before. So we are hoping to get him a big pointy birthday present. Will we be successful?
This three days trip saw us traveling quite a distance everyday to find fish. One and half hours boat ride each way meant less fishing time.
To add to the challenge the first day was cloudy and was drizzling rain too. Not the type of weather I prefer when chasing sailfish.
The second day’s weather wasn’t too different.
The seas totally changed conditions to flat glassed out on the third and last day.

We had a pleasant encounter with a huge whale shark (which you can see in the video) on the last day and that was fantastic. We have been encountering more whale sharks this season than previously.
We also put the new Yamaga Blanks ENNE saltwater fly rod to the test. Geoff said he likes them.

Great Video – you feel the anticipation and taste the excitement!!
What a premier, Geoff !
We were all thrilled that Geoff successfully caught a sailfish on his first attempt.
