I first met Tim at the 2012 FLY FISHING CONCLAVE organized by the United Flyanglers Organisation of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur – Shah Alam to be exact.
Tim is a IFFF Certified Casting Instructor living in Australia.
Due to a busy schedule he could not come back for the two subsequent events, namely the Mini Fly Fishing Fair held in Sabah Borneo in 2014 and another event held in Jakarta.
He finally made a trip back here after asking a local friend about who to get in touch with about catching a sailfish on fly.
Tim’s a keen sport fisherman and pursues plenty of fish all over the world such as Mongolia and Alaska including of course plenty of fishing in his home country Australia for many species such as marlin and sailfish but have yet to successfully catch a billfish on fly.
Check out Tim’s YouTube channel for his adventures and informative videos that he shares on fishing.
I found out later Tim has attempted catching billfish on fly it but can’t quite figure out how to get it to work, teasing and casting fly to billfish appears simple but is not as easy as it looks.
He described his 3 days fishing with us here as a steep learning curve but learned plentiful nonetheless so much so that he’s gotten a few of Nick’s sailfish flies back with him to try and fly fish for the expected juvenile black marlin run near where he lives.
In comparison with other methods of fishing for billfish, attempting to catch billfish on fly although very challenging is a real adrenaline rush.
